First, an update on my mom. She's doing tons better. Thanks for all the prayers. She is now in a nursing home. Hopefully, she will only be there for a week or so. The bottom half of her body is still pretty swollen from being in a bed for 2 1/2 weeks & she's having a difficult time standing on her own, let alone, walking. So, she's working with a physical therapist daily to try and regain her strength. That is pretty much the main reason she is at the nursing home. She still has some pain in her belly as well from all the blood that is sitting there (caused by the liver puncture) so hopefully that will dissipate soon.
After she is stronger, she will be able to leave the nursing home and go home. She already has an appointment to meet with the surgeon who will be doing the surgery to remove her tumor. We found out that my mom has a very rare disease that's called pheochromocytoma. Long word, huh? It's actually a hereditary disease so my brother and I have to now get tested for it as well. The good news is that we only have a 10% chance of getting it...that's how rare it is. I remember the nurse at the hospital telling me that when she was in med school, she was told that she would probably never come across this disease in her whole nursing career. Crazy, huh? We now know that this disease has caused all of my mom's health problems. From her high blood pressure, diabetes to her stomach pain, headaches, & congestive heart failure. Caught early, these things can obviously be prevented but since her tumor was caught so late, she can't do anything about her heart failure & most likely her diabetes as well.
The hardest part will be her surgery, which doesn't look like will happen until the middle to end of June. We've been told that it is a very risky surgery on a healthy person so given my mom's very unhealthy state, the surgery is going to be scary. That is why the surgeon isn't rushing the surgery. He wants her as healthy as she can be. Anyway, I will keep you posted on how she is doing and thanks again for all your prayers.
Yesterday, my brother, sister-in-law and I wanted to get away for the day to relax so we went to White Rock, Canada. We had such a good time and it was sooo good to get away & to not think about all the stress in our lives. Here are some pictures from the day.
I love this one. I took this when we were leaving. Konnor would only hold my brother's hand. He didn't want anything to do with me or my sister-in-law. He absolutely adores my brother.
It took Konnor a good 10 minutes before he got used to walking on the pier. It's scary when you look down and see water through the gaps in the wood. He wouldn't walk on the cracks.
